Two of the founding members of Seaford Community Cinema have decided to stand down after 6 years and hand over their roles. Mairin Colleary has acted as chair since 2010. Mairin felt that this was a good time to hand over care of the cinema which is financially secure, has an active and supportive membership, excellent attendances and has just won the prestigious filmbankmedia Audience Award 2016. Mairin also felt that bringing NT Live to Seaford was a major achievement for all the committee.
Paula Ross will take over as chair from Mairin. Many of you will know Paula Ross as Front of House Manager, looking after volunteers and organising the wonderful events alongside films. As a long standing member of the committee, we can be sure of a smooth handover. The front of house role is being taken on by Wendy Milborrow. Wendy has extensive experience of Front of House as she has been working with Paula for a number of years.
Technical Manager, and original inspiration behind the Cinema, Ian Cairns, will hand over to Adele Walshe. Ian has guided the cinema through the labyrinth of technology giving selflessly of his time and expertise to ensure the best possible viewing experience. You will recognise Adele has been a Front of House volunteer for many years, often to seen behind the bar (serving mind you!). What you might not know is that she has also been the person behind the website and our newsletter, making sure all the films are listed and you can book your tickets on line. So again, a trusted and competent pair of hands.
Rod Evans will join the committee as membership secretary taking over from Hilary Miflin who will remain on the committee and take responsibility for the new role of Community Relations. Rod will be familiar to you all as the go to person today, for membership information and all the details.
Mairin and Ian will continue to serve on the Film selection committee.
