Hot off the presses, great news for all of us at Seaford Community Cinema: we are the proud winners of the prestigious Filmbankmedia Audience Award! This came complete with a great star-shaped award, a bottle of bubbly and – the icing on the cake – a cheque for £1000.00.
Our volunteer Cathy took her place alongside other winners in Sheffield when she represented us at the national 2016 Community Cinema Conference and Film Society Of the Year Awards (November 4th-6th).
It was an extra sparkling occasion because the umbrella organisation Cinema For All was celebrating its 70th birthday and the sponsors included the British Film Institute, Filmbankmedia and the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation.
Cathy reports that it had all the anticipation and excitement of a mini-Oscars ceremony; with much esteemed film critic and Cinema For All president Derek Malcolm as well as Danny Leigh, journalist and presenter of BBC1’s Film 2016 programme, in attendance on stage.

This makes the honour for Seaford all the more outstanding because the competition is fierce for all the categories. And what makes this award so extra special is that it is entirely down to our audience. Coordinated by Cathy, it was your entries that won the day in response to the proposition to complete the following sentence in no more than 100 words: ‘Our community cinema is the heart of the community because…’
Clearly we have some fabulously inspired writers in our audience and, to turn the proposition around, the community is indeed the beating heart of our Community Cinema: we send huge congratulations to everyone who played a role in helping SCC carry off the laurels and putting our Community Cinema on the map.
