Starring: Keira Knightley, James McAvoy, Saoirse Ronan
In this epic, visually rich love story from the Ian McEwan novel, two impassioned characters are torn apart by jealousy and lies. Set during World War II, its beautifully shot locations include Cuckmere Haven and the Coastguard Cottages while the action switches from mannered upper middle-class life to harrowing battle scenes.
Atonement, starring James McAvoy and Keira Knightley and winner of a Golden Globe for best drama, features shots of our own ‘national treasures’ Cuckmere Haven and the Coastguard Cottages.
The evening is a celebration of Seaford and the surrounding area, and there will be a discussion before the film, with a guest panel that includes:
- Peter Owen Jones, vicar of Firle, Glynde and Beddingham; as well as autho and television presenter, recently seen on a BBC 4 documentary “South Downs: England’s Mountains Green”
- Carolyn Mccourt long term resident of one of the Coastguard Cottages and location manager for filming in the area.
- James Corrigan, Seaford Town Council – town clerk, with a vested interest in tourism and filming in the area.
They will be discussing the area’s aesthetic and spiritual values, location filming, and the value of tourism and filming. Additionally, Carolyn will be drawing awareness to the precarious position of the cottages – witness huge chalk falls this summer alone – and the charity CuckmerehavenSOS.
Plus! Before the show starts , enjoy the Pop Up Singers entertaining you with 1940s songs!
