For those unfamiliar with this particular relationship there are some surprises in store: far from encouraging her son, Mrs Lowry tries to dissuade him from pursuing his passion. LS Lowry lived with her until her death in 1939. In the Guardian Peter Bradshaw praised the two leads for providing an ‘entertaining showcase’.
